Muriel’s Double-Duo Dill ‘n’ Cucumber Salad
Serves 6
When I was a kid, my mother used to make a dill cucumber salad, mostly for picnics or barbecues, and the Alt family could never get enough of it. I wondered what made the salad so irresistible, so I asked my mom. She told me that the secret was pressing the cucumbers to “get the burps out.” I’m not sure I know what that means, but to get it right, follow her directions carefully. This is a great salad. Thanks again, Mom! Read more…

As a millenary science known and practiced for more then 5000 years – Ayurveda – provides simple and natural methods, extremely efficient, of using therapeutic plants with healing proprieties. One of these consists in using the medicinal and aromatic plants as powder.
Most of the plants with healing proprieties can be administrated as powder. Actually this method it is not unknown. For example the using of the ground spices, represents a practical way that we often use, when we prepare soups, or other food, that we wish to be quite delicious and pleasant.
To tell the truth we may have often found ourselves tasting a bit from the coloured powders of spices that we have in the kitchen. Whether it’s the well known powders of pepper or salt, or the aromatic powders of some spices as the coriander, mustard, paprika, dill, lovage or parsley, either we want to taste the aromatic powder of cinnamon, vanilla, nutlet, or anise, or we are captivated by the mint, sweet basil, or salvia, every time that we taste a bit from this aromatic spices, something special, pleasant and refreshing occurs, both to our appetite and to senses. Rousing the appetite and improving the digestion, enchanting our senses and mind, the powders from seasoning plants make us discover the healing power hidden in them. Read more…

Carold Alt is the first raw foodist I ever seen into one TV show many years ago when I was young and in good healt. The infos received to that moment was amazing!!! Even she explained into detail the principles of the raw food diet to that point I was thinking that this way of eating is assorted more with hollywood stars lifestyle more then with normal people. Despite the fact that she is eating raw meat (this is something I don’t realy understand:)))) I think she was a pioneer and because of her raw food become more popular and easy to follow for thousands of people today.
You can read next an entire interview with Carol Alt for www.pr.com
PR.com (Allison Kugel): In your early thirties you were experiencing some chronic health problems?
Carol Alt: Here’s the thing…I guess because I’m surrounded by young people all the time in the [modeling and entertainment] industry…there’s always somebody coming up behind you. I got a chance on a trip to Venezuela to work with a nineteen-year-old girl and I was about 34 years old at the time. I saw this girl happy, fun, full of energy. She was jumping on tables. Now I’m the name on the project, technically the big star there, but the entire crew was drawn to her because she had energy and she was jumping and she was laughing and everybody was having a good time with her. And I was kind of tired and sitting on the side. They were putting her in g-strings and I was hiding myself behind rocks, because the flight had made me bloat. I only had the one day [down there] and I was literally hiding behind rocks. As I got on the plane to go home I was sitting there thinking, “What happened to me as a body, as a person…between, say, 25 and 34?” At 34 years old I was on allergy medicines for my sinuses, I was taking eight Tums a night for acid stomach, and I was really, really tired. My body was starting to change. I was eating less food. I was already eating no food to maintain my weight at 125 lbs. at 5′10 ½” as a model. Now at 34, even starving myself for two days wasn’t getting me down to my fighting weight. It didn’t matter how much I worked out. I was up to 135 lbs. at that point and just couldn’t get it off, and I just couldn’t eat any less food. It took me Nyquil to fall asleep, it took me coffee to wake up. And it wasn’t like, “Oh my god, I have to have it!” It was just something I did. It was just my routine. Read more…

Lately I get interested in making my own cosmetics. The wide range of chemicals i read on a cream face box make me very nervous. Even is not so simple like buying from a beauty shop is more fun and interesting. My skin become sensitive with aging and now I fell like a little baby trying to discovering what is best for me in this new episode of my life. If into beginning I was concerned with having healthy food and drink now my horizon expand and I am looking to give to all my being the best nature can offer for me. Read more…

Today’s post is by Fred Burks of National Examiner

The swine flu has turned out to be little more dangerous than the average flu. The majority of those who have died of swine flu have had other health complications which played a decisive role in mortality. Revealing articles at the beginning of the outbreak described the pandemic of fear taking place, as happened with the avian flu just a few years ago.
Yet the pandemic of fear continues as a massive vaccination of the public is well underway with a vaccine that has undergone limited testing for possible severe side effects like GBS, which killed hundreds and paralyzed thousands in the 1976 swine flu scare.
According to the CDC, approximately 36,000 people die each year in the U.S. from the regular flu. That averages to about 100 people a day. The total number of confirmed mortalities in the U.S. from the swine flu since the virus was identified in March is in the hundreds, less than the number of people who die in 10 days from the regular flu. Today’s post is by Gina Shaw of Living And Raw Foods
You may have heard about people eating raw food and drinking juices to detoxify themselves but you may not know the ins and outs of why. The truth is, cooked food is considered as poison to the human body, in fact, every time we eat cooked food our white blood cells multiply to get rid of the invader! This process of white blood cell multiplication is known as digestive leucocytosis.
Our bodies are not designed to eat cooked food and it has to be eliminated as quickly as possible or else stored in adipose tissue. Human beings are frugivores and can only live healthfully on a diet primarily consisting of raw fruit, nuts and seeds and green leafy vegetables. Raw plant material is the only thing our bodies’ recognise as food and eating this way is the only way to achieve maximum vitality and optimum health. Read more…

Several fruits and vegetables are renowned aphrodisiacs, proving it does pay off to follow a healthy diet. Nuts, figs and berries are said to resemble female genitalia. Phallic-shaped fruit and vegetables such as carrots, asparagus, cucumbers and bananas are likewise revered. In 18th century France, tomatoes were regarded as the “apple of love”, no doubt due to their rarity at the time. The Aztecs considered testicle-shaped avocados so potent that young virgins were not allowed out of doors during the harvest. Read more…
